Saturday Mourning Cartoons Theme Songs – Part I

It’s been a crazy few months here at Saturday Mourning Cartoons.  We’re well over 25 episodes by now, but I thought it’d be great to sum up our first 25 cartoon series by providing their intros and theme songs for your audio-visual enjoyment!  If by some chance you missed these toons (or our podcasts on them), now’s a great time to get familiar with them.  Check out all 25 of them below!

Sing-a-Long Sunday: David the Gnome

On the next episode of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast, we’ll revisit the 1987 Spanish animated TV series, David the Gnome.  Originally based on the children’s book The Secret Book of Gnomes, by the Dutch author Wil Huygen and illustrator Rien Poortvliet, the English-language dub came courtesy of Canada’s Cinar and the Weinstein brothers’ Miramax Films.  In the US, David the Gnome aired on Nickelodeon, narrated by Christopher Plummer and featuring Tom Bosley as the voice of the title character.

If you’d like to revisit your childhood, please consider using our referral link to pick up David the Gnome on DVD here.  And if you’re not familiar with this show, why don’t you start by listening to the theme song below?

Sing-A-Long Sunday: Spiral Zone

I know nothing about the 1987 sci-fi series Spiral Zone, except that this intro is insane and the show sounds awesome!  But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.  For starters, we’ll begin with the excellent theme song (which tells you everything you need to know) with lyrics provided below. Enjoy!

Spoken: Surrender, or pay the consequences.

Earth’s most powerful soldiers, are earth’s last chance to fight the Spiral Zone
Darkness, has fallen, on the victims of the zone
Our world, calls for courage, peace and freedom we must own

We will fight, on our honor
What is right, we’ll defend
Fight the zone, zone riders

Earth’s most powerful soldiers are earth’s last chance against the Spiral Zone!

Sing-A-Long Sunday: The Herculoids

We’re going old school on the next episode of Saturday Mourning Cartoons as we revisit the 1967 Hanna-Barbera series, The Herculoids!  While you can’t exactly sing along to this one (since there are no lyrics, befitting H-B action series), feel free to whistle, hum, kazoo, meow, or whatever else you want!

If you’re fond of the series and want to pick it up on DVD, please consider doing so through our referral link.  You get some classic cartoons and we get to keep the podcast going. Everybody wins!

We’ve also got a brand-y new donation button you can click on if that’s more your speed! Thanks in advance!

Sing-a-Long Sunday: Disney’s TaleSpin!

Surprisingly, the intro/theme song for Disney’s TaleSpin has proven to be the most addictive one yet.  If you’re like us, you’ll be doing the Island Voice/Laugh all week after listening to this one.  Want to sing along?  We’ve provided the lyrics below.  Want to freestyle it?  You’re on your own!

If you want to pick up the 1990 animated series on DVD, you can do so through our referral links.  Pick up TaleSpin Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and/or Vol. 3 right here! Doing so helps to fund the podcast, so thanks in advance!

(hahahahaha) (Spin it!)
Ooh-ooh-ooh-oohooh …

(Let’s begin it)
(Bear ‘n grin it!)
(Spin it!)

Oh-ee-yeah (Tale Spin)
Oh-ee-yoh (Tale Spin)
Friends for life, through thick and thin
With another tale to spin
Oh-ee-yeah (Tale Spin)
Oh-ee-yoh (Tale Spin)
All the trouble we get in
With another tale to spin

(Spin it!)
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh …
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh …
(Spin it, my friend!)

Hey! Hey! Hey!
Spin it
Let’s begin it
Bear ‘n grin it
When you’re in it
You can win it
In a minute
When you spin it, spin it, spin it!
(hahaha) So spin it!
Tale Spin!

Sing-A-Long Sunday: M.A.S.K.

M-m-m-mask! Sean’s pick this week has us taking a look back to the 1985 animated series M.A.S.K.  Honestly, I still have no clue as to just what’s going on in this show, but it was certainly fun trying to figure it out.  I can’t even g-g-g-grasp what’s happening in the show’s theme song, but that doesn’t stop me from singing along, and it shouldn’t stop you either! I’ve provided the lyrics below, followed by the show’s intro and theme if you want to relive you ch-ch-ch-childhood memories or get introduced to this show like I did.

Also, if you’re interested in picking up M.A.S.K.: The Complete Series on DVD, please consider doing so through our referral link since it helps to fund the podcast. Thanks in advance!

Mask crusaders,

Working all the time, fighting crime, fighting crime!

Secret raiders, who will neutralise, as soon as they arrive,

Trekker’s gonna lead the mission,

And Spectum’s got such super vision,

Is the mighty power that can save the day,

No-one knows what lies behind their masquerades!

Always riding on Venom’s trail,

Come see the Laser Rays,

Fly away!

Sing-a-Long Sunday: Freakazoid!

It’s not all that often (in fact, it’s never) that one of the shows we review on Saturday Mourning Cartoons wins any kind of award.  That’s not the case for this week’s installment, Freakazoid! which won an Emmy for its theme song, and had another song nominated for a second Emmy.  You can enjoy the zany cartoon’s intro below, and sing along with these Emmy-winning lyrics:

Super-teen extraordinaire
Freakazoid! Freakazoid!
Runs around in underwear
Freakazoid! Freakazoid!

Rescues Washington D.C.
Freakazoid! Freakazoid!
Unless something better’s on TV
Freakazoid! Freakazoid!

His brain’s overloading
It has a chocolate coating
Textbook case for Sigmund Freud
Freakazoid! Freakazoid!

Check out Dexter Douglas
Nerd computer ace
Went surfing on the internet
And was zapped to cyberspace
He turned into the Freakazoid
He’s strong and super-quick
He drives the villains crazy
‘Cause he’s a lunatic

His home base is the Freakalair
Freakazoid! Fricassee!
Floyd the Barber cuts his hair
Freakazoid! Chimpanzee!
Rides around in the Freakmobile
Freakazoid! Freakazoo!
Hopes to make a movie deal
Freaka me! Freaka you!

He’s here to save the nation
So stay tuned to this station
If not, we’ll be unemployed
Freakazoid! Freakazoid!
