On a very special (and spooooooky) holiday edition of the Saturday Mourning Cartoons podcast, we get in the Halloween spirit with a pair of ghostly toons.  The first is the 1986 series The Real Ghostbusters, based on the smash-hit movie; the second is the rebooted 1997 series Extreme Ghostbusters, featuring new cast members that didn’t quite endear themselves to audiences (and definitely not to Sean).  We even take a little sidetrack to talk about the toys from the past, and the future plans for Ghostbusters 3; head on over to Collider’s own podcast for more on that feature film.

You can watch the entirety The Real Ghostbusters on DVD here.  Extreme Ghostbusters is much tougher to find on Region 1 DVD, but if you are interested in picking the series up on VHS tape (ask your parents), you can find them at this link.  Please consider buying  either or both through our referral link since it helps to fund the podcast. Thanks, and enjoy!

  1. I have to say I disagree with you guys on this. More than a few of the Real Ghostbusters episodes do not fit the description you guys gave. In the show’s syndicated season, they got WAY more creative and dark with their storylines (Cthulu even shows up) and that was thanks to Story Editor J Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) and Michael Reaves (Gargoyles, Batman TAS). However, they left shortly after Coulier replaced Music, and that’s when the show deteriorated. Phelous did a great rundown of both the good and bad episodes, and I strongly suggest checking it out.

    1. Checking those lists out now, thanks! If we make our way back to this one (maybe around the time the new movie comes out this year), do YOU have any suggestions on episodes to watch? Any personal favorites? Thanks again!
